Julia, husband John and family moved from Harraton Stables to Harraton Stud, Exning in 2005. Since then, the yard has been rennovated and the horses are very relaxed in this secluded setting. Racing is obviously going to continue in this family - John is involved in the yard and also runs Hoofbeats Guided Tours. Son Ross and daughter Shelley are both keen riders. Both children have emulated their mother and had considerable success as amateur riders. Peter, Julia's father, trained for over 25 years, originally hailing from Sussex where he trained at Ditchling, before coming to Exning.
Julia moved from Ditchling when she was 18 years old. Her first job was a racing secretary for Clive Britain as well as an amateur jockey. She met John when she was 28 and they married. She then turned to training young jockeys at the British Racing School, where she had her two children. In November 2000, she decided to share her father's yard, get out a licence and start training racehorses herself.
Amongst Julia's vast array of successes include Spirit of Sharjah, above, (multiple pattern race winner and placed at Royal Ascot), Najaaba (voted all-weather Horse of the Year by RacingPost readers after five consecutive wins) and King Flyer who earnt over £100,000 prize money in a memorable career.
<< Julia winning on Don't Drop Bombs at Lingfield in 1995, for the eighth time. She has still got him now and he could still give most of the other horses a run for their money.
Shelley has proven to be as stylish as her mother, seen here winning at Higham.
Najaaba won many awards in a rags-to-riches story - she was bought for only £800 and went on to win 8 times in 12 months.
