It was a quiet week on the track for us with Spanish Mane's third place the best we could muster from three runners but we were kept busy elsewhere having bought two new horses. After Zany Idea's recent retirement to the British Racing School, the N.E.T. Racing Club were in need of another horse so I was delighted to secure them a tough and reliable three-year old filly called Grand Duchess Olga who finished second on her most recent start at Bath. She improved that day for stepping up to 1m6f so she obviously needs a trip and she looks sure to win now that she is running over the right distance. She is sound and hardy so should give the Club members plenty of good days out, alongside recent Yarmouth winner Corporate Raider. The other horse purchased is a lovely unraced two-year old by top sire Kingman called Notre Dame. She was part of Sir Robert Ogden's dispersal sale after he died recently so it is through no fault of her own that she was sold and I think I got great value for money. She is a May foal so has needed time to mature but she is a bonny and strong filly who should do well next year with the aim of selling her in autumn 2024, hopefully for a profit! There a few shares left in her syndicate and if you would like to know more, please check her out on our OWNERSHIP page. There has been plenty of rain about recently and the forecast looks unsettled so I've taken the chance of entering the soft ground horses in races this week so hopefully things stay a bit wet. On Thursday we have three entries, starting at Leicester. Scotch Mist has shown promise in three novice races and has a workable handicap mark which she can hopefully improve upon now she steps up in distance. She has been fragile to train so needs conditions to be right but I hope that owner Carol Bushnell's patience with her can be rewarded soon. Stintino Sunset has been a bit disappointing on her last couple of runs but it might just be that she needs soft ground to show her best. The blinkers didn't do much for her last time so we might leave them off now and fingers crossed some juice in the ground can see her run better. Fen Tiger is a known mud-lover so the more rain the better for him. He has been a bit underwhelming this season after three wins in 2022 but it might just have been that he shows his best later on in the season, hopefully starting now! Friday sees another trio of entries at Nottingham, all wanting soft ground. Trinidad Calypso is a big filly by Roaring Lion who has needed time to develop but she is there now and ready to run. I doubt she will be making a winning debut but it will be a good experience for her with an eye to further down the line. Lady Clemmie hasn't had many goes on soft ground but she galloped well on it at the weekend so hopefully it can help her run well. She didn't like the ups and downs of Brighton last time so a return to a flatter track is only a positive. Macho Sun is also entered at Newbury that day where he is more likely to get a run. He loves the soft ground as well so a wet week will be ideal. The final entry for the week will be Clenched who makes her debut for us at Newmarket on Saturday. We bought her last autumn and she had a little hold up in the spring which put her schedule back. She's fine now and ready for a run. It'll be a bit of a fact-finding mission for us with regards to her ideal distance and riding style so we will learn plenty from the run. Comments are closed.
