It was no surprise to hear this week that the initial date for a return to racing at the end of this month has been pushed back and I always thought it was unlikely to happen given the way the coronavirus was taking a hold of the country. I do think it was wrong of the BHA to set that initial date as it never looked likely to happen and gave people false hope. I do think the latest hope of a return in the middle of May is a bit more likely with all the Classics being pushed back a month so the Guineas are in early June and the Derby in July. It is highly unlikely that there will be any crowd allowed to see these races live but it'll be great to get the sport back on and there will be plenty of people wanting to watch it at home. I hope you are all staying healthy and sane during the lockdown. Once again I feel very lucky to have the excuse of looking after the horses every day which means we can get out of the house as I would soon get cabin fever. We won't be galloping any of the horses until racing looks more likely to return but they are still all going out every day on the Heath as turning them out wouldn't be the best idea because it would take them six weeks to get fit again and scientifically it has been proven to be detrimental to a horse's bone density if they are given a prolonged break, resulting in likely fractures later down the line. Exercise helps keep the bones hard and healthy. The team have been a real credit in the yard and go about their work with no fuss whilst maintaining the social distancing guidelines. To give you an insight into what happens, we have put together this video of a day at the yard so you can soak up the sights and sounds of life at Julia Feilden Racing from dawn to dusk: To test your knowledge of the horses in the yard, Gemma has put together an emoji picture quiz so see if you can name all the horses below. Some are easier than others! You can use our "Horses In Training" page to help you out. The answers are at the bottom of this blog post. There is no video from the gallops this weekend as we have been sending out owners' videos for each horse but there was a N.E.T. Racing Club update this week which you can see below if you missed it: Emoji quiz answers
