All change

13/10/2019

With runners, the sales and horses going on holiday, it's a changeable time in the yard with plenty of movement but it is all building for the future whilst continuing to have success on a regular basis.
It's the time of year when a fair few of the team start their winter breaks and some have come a bit sooner than normal with the soft ground and the odd cough from a few horses. We still have a good handful ready to run now whilst another set of horses are just getting back to peak fitness ready for an all-weather campaign.
I'll have to give the races a miss this week as I'll be busy at the Tattersalls yearling sale trying to find some prospects for the future. There are tonnes of youngsters to sift through and lots to inspect as the shortlist gets whittled down.
Talking of building for the future, the bricklaying of our new stable block was finished this week and hopefully the roofers can crack on this week if the weather is suitable. The new stables are lovely and roomy with great air flow to promote a clean environment for the horses.

There has been loads of rain about recently and some turf fixtures have even been called off due to waterlogging but hopefully the fixtures we're going to this week will be on as I think the runners we have there will like the soft conditions.
Alibaba didn't see out the one mile distance at Southwell last time so dropping back to 7f at Yarmouth on Monday is no problem and I've always wanted to run him on soft as he has the action for it. His rating is high enough but he should be involved if enjoying the ground.
Also by the seaside that day will be Any Smile. She shows lots of ability at home but hasn't quite done the same on the track for us recently. Her sire Zoffany is getting loads of winners on soft ground at the moment so that has made us think maybe she wants those conditions too. She galloped well on it recently at home so maybe that is the answer.

The other runner for the week comes at Brighton on Thursday with Telekinetic. She too hasn't shown what we know she is capable of on the racecourse yet but she has had excuses in the past. The ground and track's undulations are a bit of an unknown but opportunities for her are limited now the season is coming to a close so she will take her chance.
