Back with a bang!

18/9/2016

After giving the horses three weeks off due to some of them coughing, it was a bit of step into the dark last week when our first runners since then returned to the track.
Pitch High had his third career run at Brighton on Monday and ran well enough, despite not handling the track's unique undulations. He will qualify for a handicap mark now and is one to remember for the future.

Despite Valley Lodge running a disappointing race at Chepstow the following day for no apparent reason, we didn't have to wait long to get back on the scoreboard as Candesta came out of his summer break in top form to win at Beverley under our apprentice Liam Doran. He is a capable horse at his level and a lot of the credit must go to Jo Lambert who rides the horse every day and has got him in fantastic shape. Liam has been working very hard to improve his style and fitness recently and it certainly showed with a polished performance in the saddle.

Thank you to everyone, familiar and new, who visited the yard this morning as part of the Newmarket Open Day. We were one of just 15 yards in the town open and your efforts to come are always appreciated as we are a bit off the beaten track. Hopefully you enjoyed seeing the horses chilling out in the paddocks as well as getting to see some mares and foals. A big thank you must go to Dillys and Sue for supplying plenty of cakes and pastries to eat - judging by how little was left, they must have been nice!

As a lot of the horses are working their way back to full fitness after a few weeks off, runners will be thin on the ground this week with just Silver Alliance entered in the Cambridgeshire Handicap at the weekend. We never thought he would get a run in this historic race but hopefully he will get a place in its consolation race - the Silver Cambridgeshire. Prior to his time off, he had won his last two races and has been really perked up by wearing blinkers recently. This is a big step up in class but hopefully there's still some improvement left in the old boy.
