Changing of the seasons

22/10/2017

We're a yard that has runners all year round, no matter what the surface we are running on, but things have definitely quietened down a bit in the yard just recently as a number of horses go on their winter holidays. The turf season is gradually coming to a close and those that need some time to develop have been given just that in the paddocks.
There is no rest for the team though as taking their place we have a set of horses back from a recent break, including Go On Gal, Spirit Of Sarwan and Secret Strategy.
There is also a handful of yearlings to get going as they begin their careers as racehorses so we still have plenty to keep us on our toes!

We were out and about plenty last week with a host of runners, most of which had very little luck.
Despite the rain that is about, Yarmouth still had quick ground and it was too fast for My Name Is Jeff to show his best. He is a horse we like and is better than this run. Also out of fortune was Best Example who could never get a run through at Lingfield. He is a hold up horse so is a hostage to fortune sometimes if the early pace isn't strong.
There was plenty of promise though from Mungo Madness, who now goes to the sales at the end of the month; Gatillo who bounced back to form and Majestic Moon who seemed to handle Southwell well as they all landed some place money.

This coming week will be a lot quieter with just Oceanus declared for Yarmouth on Tuesday. He too was out of luck at Brighton last time when getting trapped on the rail so he never had a race. We are making the most of the soft ground and his good form at the moment so hopefully he can bounce back.

Avocet will be given an entry at Wolverhampton on Saturday night but I doubt she will get a run. With the sales next week, everyone is desperate to run before then and get some form in the book so most of the races are oversubscribed. Things get a lot more sensible after then.
