The winners rolled onto a sixth consecutive week on Friday as Gas Monkey backed up his emphatic win at Newbury last time with another six-length romp at Doncaster. He was a handicap 'good thing' as he was running without a penalty for his last win and was officially 10lbs ahead of the handicapper so it was great that he could put the theory into practice. Monkey has been a revelation since we put a hood on him and he is now unbeaten in his last three runs which has given the N.E.T. Racing Club loads of fun this summer. He will have to race off his new rating in the future but hopefully there is still a bit more improvement left in him. It was also my birthday on Friday so I got the best present I could ask for and, funnily enough, Terri Rules won at Yarmouth on my birthday last year so the horses seem to know it's a special day! As I said, we have had a really good time of it recently with a winner every week and it is all credit to the team at home who are keeping the horses fit and healthy so it was only right that we celebrated Racing Staff Week with a barbecue for them all to enjoy. Keeping up the good run this week might be tricky as we have just three runners but they all have a squeak and all come on Thursday evening. At Epsom, Highway Robbery will be hoping to win his second race of the season and can be forgiven his below-par run last time when he was probably a bit too far back. I think he will handle Epsom's undulations just fine and he should be in with a chance. Winter Snowdrop will be going with him and she has a bit of work to do in a higher grade race than usual but she tries very hard and will be fine on the track so hopefully she can get some prize money. It's set to be a busy day for owner Carol Bushnell as all three of the runners are owned by her. Noble Account makes his handicap debut at Newbury and can hopefully run well. His rating might be a little high but he has plenty of ability, it's just that he is still a big baby and hasn't quite got the hang of racing yet. The conditions of the race suit him well though and hopefully he can get competitive as well as learning a lot from the run. The Tattersalls July Sale kicks off in town on Wednesday and I can't wait to get up there as we have a couple of stables ready to be filled. There is a whole host of horses on offer and I've already been asking my contacts in various yards about their horses so hopefully we can grab some value and find some winners. Full details on any new purchases will be available next week. As you will have seen in our latest newsletter (which you can read HERE) we have a couple of owners' events in the planning which you are welcome to join. First up on Wednesday 21st August we have the annual owners' golf day at Newmarket Links Golf Course. It is open to players of all abilities with a tee-off time of 11am and a green fee of £35 payable on the day. If you are interested in joining, please email [email protected]. Our second event is a new one to the calendar and is already proving extremely popular. On Thursday 5th September we will be heading to Burghley Horse Trials for the start of their world-class three-day event. There will be a bus leaving the yard at 9.30am which will take us to the event and bring us back at 5.30pm. It should be great day out and I hope you can join us. Depending on numbers, it will roughly be £35 each which includes return transport and entrance ticket. If you are interested, please email [email protected]. This year's 'Four To Follow' competition is already in full swing and last year's winners got to enjoy their prize this week as they were treated to a table and meal for four people at Great Yarmouth racecourse thanks to the track's very kind sponsorship of the competition. Tony and Simon were tied on points at the end of last season and agreed to share the prize. Thankfully they got on very well and had a great day. I know Simon is a regular at the races but it was Tony's first time going and he has already said he'll be going back soon! Four To Follow leaderboardAnn Buy 128
