Newmarket springs back to life

16/4/2017

Secret Strategy continued the fine start to his career when again finishing second on just his second career run at Brighton on Saturday. Once again he bumped into a highly-rated hot-pot from a big yard but it won't be long before he finds a race of his own to win.

For many, the turf season 'proper'starts this week with the Craven meeting at Newmarket and we will be there on the opening Tuesday with Tallulah's Quest in the Wood Ditton Maiden over one mile. It is usually a very hot race and certainly looks that way this year with all the big names represented with their unraced three-year olds. Tallulah has definitely been working nicely at home and jumped out of the stalls very professionally on Friday. It will be great to get some racecourse experience into her and I think she is one to watch later in the season when going handicapping.

Cuban Queen has always shown ability at home but her nervous disposition has held her back quite a bit this winter. Her last couple of runs seems to have been a step in the right direction and young jockey Finley Marsh seems to really suit her. She is likely to head to Wolverhampton on Wednesday for an apprentice race and I hope she can continue her improvement.

Spirit  Of Sarwan is also entered at Newmarket on the Thursday of the Craven meeting but with lots of entries, he is unlikely to get a run so may head to Epsom the following week instead.

Avocet is a lovely, big filly we bought from Juddmonte in February and she has been gradually upping her work regime. She came with a reputation of being quite difficult to train but her attitude has improved dramatically since coming to ours and she goes about her work very enthusiastically now. She has had three runs in France so will have a handicap mark and is one to watch out for.
My Name Is Jeff is a similarly big horse and he won't be far from making his debut soon. He is likely to need the experience of maiden races but should come into his own in handicaps later in the summer.
