Places make prizes

14/8/2016

The horses continued to do themselves proud on the track this week with another four runners, three of which finished in the first three places. With over a 50% strike-rate for placed horses to runners, this has been one of our most successful ever and that stat means in reality that our owners are winning prize money every race in two - a great thing when it comes to covering costs.
I though Duke Of Diamonds would be our best chance and he went agonisingly close after losing out by just a short head. We were taking a chance on the firm ground and he didn't seem to be enjoying it as he hung in the straight but it almost paid off and he came out of the race fine so he lives to fight another day.

This week will be a much quieter one with just a flurry of activity on Tuesday.
Star Of The Stage and Spirit Of Sarwan both head to Kempton that day and hopefully they can both follow our placed horses strike rate. Spirit Of Sarwan is only in a four runner race so he is pretty much guaranteed some prize money but I hope it is nearer first than fourth as his homework on the all-weather has been very good and I hope there's a bit of improvement in him for the change of surface.

Star Of The Stage is rated a bit high after a couple of wins this year but he is much better on the all-weather than turf and has a decent draw for his front-running style so he too should be in the mix at the finish.

Also on their travels on Tuesday will be Moment To Dream who heads to the Ascot August Sale. She came to us highly regarded from her previous trainer but has failed to deliver and the syndicate decided it was time to move on and reinvest into another horse. She could continue to race on but has a decent pedigree and would equally make someone a nice broodmare at stud.

As mentioned last week, we are hosting our annual owners' golf day this Thursday and will be having a barbecue back at the yard afterwards. Even if you're not golfing and are at a bit of a loose end, feel free to come down as there will be plenty of grub from about 5.30pm onwards.
