Quiet week in a busy town

1/10/2017

The yearling sale circus comes to town this week and Newmarket will be a hive of activity with hundreds of potential superstars up for sale. This first week of the sales sees some of the finest bred horses in the world come under the hammer and the prices that will be given will be eye-watering. All I'll be able to afford is a cup of tea but the following week sees the more affordable youngsters - that's not to say that they will run any slower. Buying a yearling is like buying a lottery ticket - it may be worthless in a year's time or it could change your life but how much you spend on it makes only the slightest difference.

Runners-wise, it'll be a quiet one with just Terri Rules at Bath on Monday.
She has gone close to winning a couple of times this year but hasn't shone on her last few runs. She has gone best when getting covered up and coming with a late run so we will try that to see if it is the key as she seems to be in good form still and she handles soft ground fine.
Casey Banter and Limerick Lord are entered at Chelmsford on Thursday but I doubt they will get a run with the races over-subscribed.

Even though there isn't much action on the track for us, you can keep busy by reading this month's newsletter which came out on Friday. It can be viewed online at:

We had three runners last week at Chelmsford and our lack of luck there continued. I've come to realise that if you have a wide draw it is a waste of time as the course seems to favour front runners and getting a handy position from a wide draw uses up too much energy.
Tallulah's Quest put in a big effort to finish fifth after sitting at the back of the field early on whilst Mungo Madness was tired before the home straight after getting in front from his wide draw.
We have had a winner there so aren't completely luckless but I can't say I ever go there full of confidence!
